![]() Then I'll light my kuthu vilakku while singing Illaga Vilakkathu pathigam - Appar thevaram. I start with the Naalvar thuthi & then Vinayagar thuthi - eg, Ainthu Karathanai. ![]() The lamp should always face east / north side. First, I'll keep the kuthu vilakku on a tray & then place it over the kolam. I get dressed, decorate the photos & lamps with flowers, light the lamps in the altar & start my prayers. The day of the prayer starts with washing my porch, a maakolam at the threshold, making neivedyam - usually milk & chakkarai pongal. So, I start with the prep work the night before - clean my prayer room, hang maavilai at the house entrance & altar, draw a small ezhai kolam / kamalam in the pooja place, decorate Ambal's photo with lamps, drape my kuthu vilakku in a silk cloth & keep chandanam - kumkum for the idol pictures & lamps. ![]() Do note that these are based on my family elders' teachings & practice - kindly follow your family tradition if it's different □□ Also due to work & lifestyle, I only perform these rituals on my off-workdays. I received a few DM's today on how I perform these prayers, hence sharing here on what I do.
